TELAMON

HG-Telamon3.jpg

‘A column in the form of a male figure used to support an entablature, also known as a Caryatid or Atlantis’

This work was completed in 2016, hand carved in Lavoux - French Lime stone.

Combining naturalistic figurative work with sculptural flowing ornament to sit in contrast with the masonry. An original design, inspired by nineteenth century architectural carvings, in particular the work of ‘The New Sculpture’ movement.

The figure is suspended between supporting the architectural block or being crushed by its weight.
